Your letter — adapt anything in [brackets], then send

Before you send it:
  • Attach evidence that answers their exact reason — payslips, medical letters, bills, reports.
  • Keep a copy of everything, and note the date you sent it.
  • Get free help checking it: Citizens Information (Ireland) or Citizens Advice (UK) — they do this every day.

Your questions

About appealing a refusal

Do benefit appeals actually succeed?
Yes — a large share succeed, especially when you add evidence that answers the specific reason for refusal. In the UK, tribunal success rates for benefits like PIP and Universal Credit are high. Don't be put off by a first "no".
How long do I have?
Ireland: generally 21 days from the decision to appeal to the Social Welfare Appeals Office. UK: usually one month to request a Mandatory Reconsideration. Act quickly — late appeals can be refused.
Is this really free and private?
Completely free. Everything runs in your browser — your name, PPS/NI number and story never leave your device and are never sent to us.
Do I need a solicitor?
No. Appeals are designed to be done without legal representation, and free services (Citizens Information in Ireland, Citizens Advice in the UK) will help you prepare.
Where do I send the letter?
Ireland: appeals go to the Social Welfare Appeals Office (you can also appeal online at socialwelfareappeals.ie); reviews go back to the section that made the decision. UK: send your Mandatory Reconsideration to the address on your decision letter, or reply through your Universal Credit journal. The letter the tool builds includes this guidance.
