Accessibility statement
The People's Pocket should work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or a high-contrast setting. This page says how we test that, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us about a problem.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That is the web part of EN 301 549, the European standard used by the European Accessibility Act.
The People's Pocket Limited is a microenterprise, with fewer than 10 staff, so the Act's rules for services (S.I. No. 636 of 2023) do not apply to us. We follow them anyway.
The checks that run
- Colour contrast on every page, in light and dark mode, before any change goes live.
- Every calculator and checker is opened on a phone and on a desktop and used from start to finish before any change goes live.
- An automated accessibility audit with axe-core against WCAG 2.1 A and AA, on phone and desktop, plus our own checks: the page reflows at 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling, keyboard focus is always visible, and documents are tagged for screen readers.
- Plain English: short paragraphs and sentences, checked on every guide.
What we know needs work
Our audit on 29 October 2026 found two problems, both now fixed:
- The logo link's spoken name did not match its visible words (WCAG 2.5.3). Fixed on every page.
- One link on the About page was shown by colour alone (WCAG 1.4.1). Links in highlighted boxes are now underlined.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site doesn't work for you, or you need information in another format, email zak@peoplespocket.com. Say which page, and what happened. We'll reply as soon as we can, usually within a week, and fix what we can.
You can also use the "Spotted a mistake?" link on any guide.
