Who can get it — the full rules

The scheme is open to micro, small and medium-sized businesses in primary horticulture production, and that includes beekeeping. Applicants other than companies must be over 18.

Food producers must be in the right Bord Bia Quality Assurance programme, or an equivalent. That rule does not apply if your investment is only for beekeeping or honey production.

Equipment for processing your produce is not eligible. The scheme is for growing and production.

How much it pays

The grant is up to 40% of the accepted cost, excluding VAT. It rises to up to 50% for licensed organic growers and for young farmers who meet the rules.

To count as a young farmer for the higher rate, you must be over 18 and aged 40 or under on the day you apply. You also need a recognised farming course.

The smallest project considered is €7,500 excluding VAT. For beekeeping the minimum is €2,000 excluding VAT.

How to apply

1

Get the right 2027 application form

Beekeepers applying only for beekeeping items use a separate beekeeping application form.

3

6

Things to watch

Do not order, pay a deposit or start work before approval. Items bought before the award date are not eligible.
