Zak runs the site from Co. Cavan. He writes and checks the guides, calculators and figures on it, for Ireland, Northern Ireland and England.
Why the site exists
It is hard enough watching people struggle. Zak started The People's Pocket because of what happened next: when they went looking for help, they were sent round in circles and still could not work out what to do. The site is the straight answer they should have been given: what you may be able to get, in plain words, and exactly what to do next.
How the work is checked
Every rate and rule on the site links to the official page it comes from. Each night the site reads those pages again and compares the official wording with ours, and a page is corrected when a source changes. You can tap most figures on a guide to see the official sentence behind it.
The method is set out in full on How we check and in the editorial policy. How the site is paid for is on How we make money.
Not financial advice
The site explains public information in plain English. Zak is not an accountant, solicitor or regulated financial adviser. For advice on your own case, Citizens Information and MABS in Ireland, and Citizens Advice in the UK, are free.
Where the work has been featured
In September 2026 the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development wrote to thank The People's Pocket for its work to provide “clear and accessible information on social welfare entitlements”.
