What Work and Access covers
Work and Access funds adjustments that make workplaces accessible. There are 7 categories of support, and you may be entitled to more than one at the same time:
- Workplace Needs Assessment

- Disability Equality and Inclusion Training
The Workplace Equipment Grant
The Workplace Equipment Grant provides up to €12,000 for assistive equipment or technology. It is available to employees and self-employed people who need specific tools to do their jobs effectively — in the workplace or from home.
New or existing employees and self-employed people can apply, and you can make the application yourself rather than waiting for an employer to do it.
How to apply for the Workplace Equipment Grant
You can apply yourself, or someone else can apply for you.
Have these ready:
- Quotes for the equipment, if required
Get the application form
Ask your local Intreo Office for the WA1 form, or download it from gov.ie.
Send your completed form
You can post it free to the Employment Services Management Support Team, Department of Social Protection, PO Box 13736, Co Louth.
Your eligibility is checked
The Work and Access Section checks whether you qualify.
An officer contacts you
An officer gets in touch with you directly to talk about your application.
Meet the final requirements
Final approval comes only after you meet the specific requirements that Department officers set.
Your employer buys the equipment
Once approved, your employer or a chosen representative buys the approved equipment.
