EDF Customer Support Fund: debt help and replacement appliances

The short answerIf you are an EDF customer struggling with bills, the Customer Support Fund can clear your gas and electricity debt in full once you have kept up regular payments for a while, and can replace an old or broken cooker, fridge or washing machine with an energy-efficient one.

EDF runs the fund with Charis, which handles the applications. Do a budget planner or get money advice first, because the form asks exactly how much you have left each month after priority bills.

What it offers

"The Customer Support Fund offers debt support and energy efficient appliances such as cookers, fridges and washing machines, to replace old or broken models." Smaller items such as air fryers, slow cookers and winter warmth bundles are also available.

How the debt support works

"To be considered for this help, you’ll need to show that you’re committed to being financially stable by making regular payments for your ongoing energy usage." If you're accepted, EDF agrees a payment plan and suspends debt collection. "Then, once you’ve made sufficient payments, we’ll clear your debt in full."

"If however you don’t keep up with the payments, the award will be withdrawn and the debt, together with any further debt which has accrued over the payment plan period, will remain."

How to apply

Do a budget planner on MoneyHelper or get advice from Citizens Advice Plymouth on 0808 156 6666, then apply online through the EDF Customer Support Fund site run by Charis.
