Because it is automatic, many people will not notice it. Here is how to spot it, and the one thing keypad customers should know.

If you pay by bill
Your supplier takes £63 off your electricity account automatically. It appears on your bill as 'NIRO & VAT Govt Credit'.
If your bill is lower than the discount, the rest stays on your account as credit. If your account is already in credit, the discount is added to it.
If you have a keypad or pre-pay meter
You get £63 of credit when you top up, applied at the meter. To get it all in one go, keep that top-up to £112 or less.
A bigger top-up splits the discount across later top-ups. If you are moving home or switching supplier, top up before you go if you can.
Who gets it
It is applied to each domestic property. If the electricity account is in your name, you get it. If your landlord holds the account, it goes on their account. Businesses are not eligible.
