Who qualifies
"The credit is available to homeowners with an outstanding mortgage balance between €80,000 and €500,000 as of 31 December 2022." The loan must be for "your principal private residence for 2022 and for the year(s) the claim is being made", or a home you provide for a dependent relative.
Your interest must have gone up since 2022. A property is excluded if it's "a residential property not compliant with Local Property Tax (LPT) obligations", or breaks planning rules.
You need tax to set it against
"You must have an Income Tax liability to offset against to benefit from the Mortgage Interest Tax Credit." "The credit does not provide relief against Universal Social Charge (USC) or Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) ."
How to claim
Get from your lender: "a Certificate of Mortgage Interest 2022 a Certificate of Mortgage Interest for the year you are claiming and a confirmation of qualifying loan balance at 31 December 2022." Upload them to the Receipts Tracker in myAccount.
Then complete the Income Tax Return for that year in myAccount ('Review your tax for the previous 4 years'), under 'You and your family'. The self-employed claim on Form 11.
