Grants to make your business greener

The short answerSmall businesses with under 50 staff can get up to €5,000 towards energy-efficient equipment through the Local Enterprise Office's Energy Efficiency Grant. Heat pumps for business premises can get 30% of the cost plus years of support, and efficient equipment can be written off against tax in year one.

Start with the free Green for Micro programme if you have 10 or fewer staff: two days with a green consultant to spot savings. Taxi and hackney owners can get up to €10,000 towards an electric vehicle.

For any small business

"If your small business has fewer than 50 employees, you may be able to get up to €5,000 towards the costs of energy-efficient technology and equipment." Apply through your Local Enterprise Office.

"Green for Micro is a free training programme for small businesses with 10 (or fewer) employees." It's a webinar and two days of mentoring.

Heating and equipment

The Support Scheme for Renewable Heat covers heat pumps: "Successful applicants can get an installation grant of up to 30% of eligible costs, as well as ongoing operational support for up to 15 years."

The Accelerated Capital Allowance "It allows a sole trader, farmer or company that pays corporation tax in Ireland to deduct the full cost of energy-efficient equipment from their profits in the year of purchase." "In order to qualify for this scheme, you must make sure the equipment you buy is included in the SEAI's list of energy-efficient equipment ."

"If your application is successful, you can get a grant of up to €10,000 towards the cost of a new, full-battery eSPSV." More is available for wheelchair-accessible vehicles and for scrapping an older car. Apply on the National Transport Authority's website.
