Starting a business: the grants, loans and free help

The short answerYour Local Enterprise Office is the first stop: feasibility grants to test an idea, priming grants to start, expansion grants after 18 months, plus training and mentoring. If a bank refuses you, Microfinance Ireland lends €2,000 to €50,000. New companies also get corporation tax relief for their first 5 years.

If you're unemployed, the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance or Short-Term Enterprise Allowance can keep your income while you start. If you're leaving PAYE work to invest in your own company, look at SURE.
